For more than 30 years, I moved steadily up the corporate escalator, from managing editor of the Kermit Daily Sun to vice president of one of the world’s most prestigious public relations giants, then into a VP slot with an international advertising agency. Along the way there was a 3-year stint as international spokesperson for the Boy Scouts of America. Along the way, I also got older. At 55, I was suddenly merged and purged in a feeding frenzy of corporate conglomerations. I finally found a comfy little niche, writing user guides for GTE. It was fun… it was challenging… it paid well. The perfect spot to finish out my working life. And wouldn’t you know it. Along comes another merger. High and dry again. And I suddenly find myself over-qualified for the workplace. As I sat there on the beach (well, in my mind anyway), listening to the waves and deciding I wanted to be a tugboat captain when I grew up, my reverie was interrupted by the phone. A friend wanted to know if I would be interested in teaching creative and poetry writing to at-risk students in the DISD. Sitting on the beach (especially in your mind) does get boring, so I joined the Writers in the School program, which is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. And I was hooked. Sharing my talent and years of writing experience opened a whole new career vista. Before long, I was substitute teaching in the Lewisville schools. And that’s where I am today. Don and I have been married for 44 years - (the 20th) and he forgot! Hope we make it to 45!!!! Seriously, we stay way busier than we ever intended. Don plays golf Tues. through Sat. I work at Steinmart 2 days a month (love that discount!!!) I am still teaching high school girls in Sunday School and very active with our youth group at First Baptist Church. Don teaches an old mans class (his age). We are so blessed by God and live our lives to honor Him. We have 5 grandchildren - ages 14, 13, 11, 10, and 6. Only 1 girl & 4 boys. We try to have Cousins Week every summer with all five and no parents are allowed. We do the water park, amusement park, eat out, do crafts, have a talent show, play games, and anything else I can find for us to do. Making great memories!!!! I recently have had a really weird viral infection. It settled in a nerve in my inner ear that leads to my brain. Scareeee - my brain sure doesn't need anything causing it anymore difficulty than old age does! I regret that I will be unable to come to the reunion but want to hear all about it from you all. I do thank all of you who have worked so hard for such a long time, getting everything organized and put together for the reunion. I will surely miss being there with you. Updated 08/30/04. |

 After graduation, three years in the army and five years of college, I ended up back in Odessa working for Texas Electric Service Co. I met my wife, Janice Yvette Bailey there, got married.Our son, Joseph Bailey Stringer was born in 1972 and in 1980 we moved to the metroplex. With 26 years at the electric company I retired in 1997. Janice retires this April 30, 2002 with 37 years at the electric company. Our son is a policeman with the City of Fort Worth. As soon as we sell our home here in Mansfield, we are moving to the country in Erath County and have fun growing old together. I'm looking forward to the next reunion. Janice and I have moved to Bluff Dale, Texas (half way between Granbury
and Stephenville). Janice and I moved and built a new home. We are about 3 miles south of Bluff Dale in the country on 5 acres. Just love it! Updated

JB Stringer Jr., 66, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, in
Fort Worth. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16,
at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Visitation: One hour prior to
service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials
may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Texas
Chapter, 4086 Sandshell, Fort Worth, Texas 76137. Mr. Stringer
was born June 11, 1941, in Odessa, Texas, to JB Stringer Sr. and
Mary Ellen Farrar Stringer. He married Janice Yvette Bailey,
Feb. 14, 1971, in Odessa. JB was a graduate of Odessa High
School and Texas Tech University. He served in the US Army and
retired after 27 years of service as a senior claims
representative from TXU. He was a member of the Bluff Dale
United Methodist Church and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Survivors: Wife, Janice Stringer of Bluff Dale; son, Joseph
Bailey Stringer of Fort Worth; sisters, Sue Rylee and husband,
John, of Odessa, Sara Hignight and husband, John, of Lubbock;
sisters-in-law, Quintilla Hufford and husband, Larry, of Liberty
Hill, JoLene Johnston and husband, J Morris, of Mansfield; and
numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many
friends.
